The now and the long now

In the now I focus mainly on two roles. Being a design researcher as well as an educator. My design skills always played a role in leadership, but I felt like missing out a little on the deeper content and skills of the Design field that I was educated in. In 2020 I returned to IDE Delft to follow a two-day masterclass 'Design for Complexity - Using systems and transition thinking in design'.

The educator role and working together with fine and skilled colleagues always helped me to improve myself as a person and professional. The last few years with more focus on design research, with special topics like systemic and transition design within social complexity. An approach that considers and embraces the role of design in making societal transitions towards sustainable futures.

In the summers of 2022 and 2024 I enjoyed a three-and four-day KAOSPILOT program in Aarhus, Denmark and Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. It was all about becoming a 'master archer' in 'designing and facilitating learning spaces', to improve on my educating skills and support and facilitate students in their development as a person, learner and professional.

Looking at the longer know I try to stay focussed on the subjects and roles I am in right now. Lecturing, developing and facilitating learning spaces. And trying to improve society and the complexity within from a systemic design research perspective. At Hanze university in the master’s program Social Spatial Transitions and at NHL Stenden university in the master’s program and professorship Design Driven Innovation, focussing on creating durable solutions for wicked problems and our common future. And as an informal leader, still lead by example, making a difference for others and improve on my capacity to let everyone fly.
